SUPPORT FOR HOLIDAYS

The holidays should be a dreamlike, amazing time for children.

But this year around the world, thousands of children and families will be spending the holiday behind bars because they crossed the countries of asylum border seeking protection without proper legal document as result of war or treats.

In an effort to bring smile and light to thousands of migrants around the world, united federation of volunteers for refugee’s action has launched its sixth-annual smile for the Holidays campaign. The program collects cards and gifts for distribution at migrant detention centres across our operation centres and at shelters along the border, reminding individuals and families that they are not forgotten during our emergence programs.

Last year, volunteers distributed nearly 1,000 cards to migrant families in detention centres and suburbs across the country, as well as to individuals and families who were recently released from detention. Notably, the campaign provided more than 1,200 children’s gifts – enough for every single migrant child in family detention centres in the country to open a special present over the holiday season.
